Fifteen Dollars

This online exhibition features an artist book by young American artist Grace Bryan (b. 1998) that documents her journey to the Gettysburg, Pennsylvania farm of one of her ancestors, Abraham Bryan, who was a free black farmer at the time of the Civil War.

In the summer of 2019, as a Jeffrey Ahn, Jr. Fellow, Bryan undertook a multi-part project about race, identity, and family history that began with this pilgrimage to Bryan's farm, now a historical landmark.

The resultant artist book, Fifteen Dollars, interweaves Bryan's photographs, archival research, and personal writing related to her experience at Gettysburg.

This online exhibition is supported by the Jeffrey Ahn, Jr. Foundation.
